Belize - February 2008 (Placencia, Belize)
Hey everyone,
In case I haven't spoken to you in some time-- Hi!!! Hope you're all well, please catch me up. For those who didn't even know about this e-mail/part of my site, I added you as a way to get the information out to everyone while keeping your e-mail private.
And now...
I spent ten days in Belize (from February 15 to 24) as a way to celebrate my birthday (the 17th) as well as another chance to scuba dive and get some relaxation in; the barrier reef off of Belize is second only to Australia's Great Barrier Reef. I stayed at the Maya Breeze Resort in Placencia -- the mid-bottom end of Belize and some of the best beach in the country.
The weather was amazing -- no rain but a few overcast/windy days... the day I went snorkeling I got my first sunburn, just to show that the sun is intense!
I hadn't told most people down there about my birthday but when I got back from diving (where I thought, what a great way to spend my special day) Glenda, the manager of the resort, found ways to get me to my beach-front cabin to show off the surprise that she and my sister arranged-- a basket of fruit, some Baileys (originally supposed to be Kahlua) and a birthday cake (the latter baked by Glenda's mother)! I invited everyone to dinner at the Maya Beach Bistro--the best food in the region!
There were many highlights to my trip but the aquatic life made the whole trip worth it. I decided to extend my certification from Open Water (18m) to Deep Dive (32m) since I wanted to be under water as long and deep as possible. I'd undergone lasik surgery in December to ensure that I would be able to see down there... definitely worth every penny for that aspect.
One land-lubber tour that I'd suggest to any adventurer is the ATM cave site. You swim into the cave and then traipse through the water eventually reaching a spot where you climb up and enter "the cathedral" and discover some mayan artefacts.

Hope everyone is well.
